The sizes are weighted depending on how many lawsuits connections there were. For the graphic on the left, suing someone would increase the size, receiving a lawsuit would decrease the size; vice-versa for the graphic on the right. It’s pretty interesting to see that Kodak is actually the largest aggressor, and Sharp & Motorola were the largest receivers.

If you know where the ants come from, pour a generous quantity of borax and sugar in these areas. The ants will be drawn by the sugar but the borax will kill them.
Bugs and other types of pests love clutter. It gives them lots of shelter and places to hide. When you reduce the amount of clutter in and around your home, you are reducing the habitat for these pests. Remove old clothes, books, boxes, and other clutter from around your home to reduce your chances of an infestation.
Clean any highly trafficked food areas every single day. Even a few crumbs each day can lead to a feast for pests over time. It’s best then to approach your cleaning not once a week, but daily for these areas. Even just five minutes will lead you to a cleaner area and less potential pests.
When the weather gets cool in the fall, outdoor pests will seek out your home as a source of warmth. Specifically bedbugs, bats and mice all will try to get into your home during the colder months. Make sure the exterior of your home is sealed so these pests can’t get inside.
If your camper is stored in the winter months, it may become home to mice. Natural repellents exist that can keep them at bay, however. The little repellant bags smell good and aren’t poisonous, but they prevent mice from getting inside campers and RVs.
Research the specific kind of rodent or bug that is in your house. Find out what these pests like and what they don’t. The easiest way to keep a clean home is to adapt to the kind of pest you’re dealing with.
Pests love a cluttered house! The more stuff you have laying around on the floor or shoved into cupboards, the more places they have to hide and thrive. In order to eliminate this, a good idea is to go through your entire place a couple of times a year and getting rid of things you no longer need or use. The less things you have, the less things they have to hide in and under.
Check your home for moist areas in the structure if you have carpenter ants. Carpenter ants are very attracted to moisture, so if you begin to have a problem with them, chances are that you have a leak somewhere. Once you find and solve that problem, the carpenter ants will move on naturally.
Do not buy pesticides that are labeled as being for outdoor use. While these products may get rid of the pests that you are trying to battle, they usually have a much higher concentration of chemicals than those for indoors. This means they will leave harmful poisons in the air for much longer.
Read the labels and directions of any pest-control products you use thoroughly. More is not always better. Misapplication or overuse of certain products can be dangerous to the occupants of your home. In some cases, it is even illegal and can result in fines or jail time behind bars.
To ensure ants don’t move into your home, mix 1c sugar and 1c borax in a 1 quart jar. Hammer holes into the lid with a nail and then use the jar to spread the mixture around your foundation, doors, windows and the baseboards on the inside, too. The sugar attracts ants while the Borax kills them.
When you’re overrun by cockroaches, place Borax powder around your home, especially in the kitchen and bathroom. If you have pets or children, this may not be the best solution as they can get into this poison as well. This trick can be used for other pests as well, like ants.
Try to learn what you can about the pest that is invading your home. The more that you know about its habits and ideal diet the more that you can do to keep them out of your home. For example, cockroaches love paper, so you would not want to have newspaper stored anywhere in your home.

California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced that he, along with four other state insurance regulators, has reached a settlement with the CIGNA group over claims handling practices for long-term disability insurance. The settlement comes after individual examinations into the insurance company?s claims handling practices by the California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania state insurance departments. As a result, the CIGNA companies are now reviewing past claims that were improperly handled in California from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2010.
?This is a huge win for California long-term disability consumers. We have seen too many cases of wrongful denials in recent years and insurance companies delaying the claims process. For people suffering from a long-term disability, it?s essential to their financial security that claims are handled quickly and fairly,? says Frank N. Darras, America?s top disability insurance lawyer.
Several companies were involved in the settlement, including CIGNA Health and Life Insurance Company (formerly known as Alta Health and Life), and Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, Life Insurance Company of North America. They have set aside $ 77 million for estimated payments to wrongfully denied policyholders nationwide. They are also required to pay a $ 500,000 penalty to the California Department of Insurance and $ 150,000 to reimburse the department for the cost of ongoing monitoring that is required under the settlement agreement.
?This settlement will help thousands of policyholders whose claims were not handled properly and who were wrongfully denied in the past. It is a welcome relief and one worth celebrating! It is also a win for future policyholders who might have to file a claim. This agreement should also help currently disabled insureds by adding additional good faith pressure to handle claims promptly and fairly, while putting a national spotlight on Cigna?s claim handling ,? says Darras.
According to Jones, insurance department officials found that claim handling irregularities, such as not giving due consideration to the medical findings of independent physicians, discounting information provided by Social Security Disability decisions, and not giving appropriate consideration to workers compensation records.
Under the settlement agreement, the companies are required to:
????Enhance claim procedures to improve the claims handling process to benefit current and future policyholders
????Establish a remediation program in which the companies? enhanced claim procedures will be applied to certain previously denied or adversely terminated claims for residents of states whose insurance commissioners also signed the settlement agreement
????Participate in a 24-month monitoring program conducted by the insurance departments of the five lead states
????Undergo a re-examination upon completion of the monitoring period
????Pay fines and administrative fees totaling $ 1,675,000 to the five lead states
?Any person who had their claim denied from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2010 is entitled to have their claim reviewed. It is advised they seek help from a top disability insurance lawyer or firm to ensure their claim gets a fair review,? says Darras.

This week’s assignment is to shoot something representing one or more of Newton’s three laws of motion.
Law 1: Every body perseveres in its state of being at rest or of moving uniformly straight forward, except insofar as it is compelled to change its state by force impressed.
Law 2: The rate of change of momentum of a body is proportional to the resultant force acting on the body and is in the same direction.
Law 3: All forces occur in pairs, and these two forces are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.

Restriction: No editing (photoshopping) to construct the image, e.g. to make a composite image. Editing is fine for basic editing (e.g. color correction/enhancement, contrast, etc.) and making a diptych or triptych.

Two glass balls from a garden ornament we had (and still have if I can get it put together again!)
3 pieces of wood I had laying around
Method:
Make a small ramp from the 3 pieces of wood. One piece placed on a small box and the other two pieces upright on the side of the first.
Place the larger ball on a spot on the floor.
Release the smaller ball on the ramp and let it roll down to hit the larger ball. Having the ramp ensures that speed of the ball is the same from trial shot to trial shot, and hence the photo can be controlled.
Trial shots to experiment with the right time to trigger the camera (ball at end of ramp, ball halfway down ramp, ball just being released, etc).
Rear synch flash, bounced off the ceiling. Without flash, the final resting spots of the balls wouldn’t be visible.
Camera on tripod. Remote trigger. The white trails are reflections of a window. By pulling the curtains halfway and selecting a small aperture, natural light was reduced and shutter time extended.

Nexusguard Advises Security Officers Not

In March, non-profit anti-spam organization Spamhaus was the victim of a DDoS attack, which grew to have more than 300 Gbps flood traffic sent to their servers. The attack was widely reported in international media as the largest attack in the history of the Internet. However, the real focus should not be the scale of the attack, but rather the techniques used and vulnerabilities exploited.
Industry-leading anti-DDoS service provider Nexusguard analyzed the incident and concluded that the real culprit is not merely the massive amount of flood traffic, but rather an exploitation of weaknesses in Internet protocols. Organizations should understand that defending against such attacks requires more than simply buying bandwidth.
According to the following characteristics, Nexusguard’s research classifies the attack as a DNS reflection attack:
1. Vulnerabilities in Internet protocols: Since the Internet was built around convenience and efficiency, security features are not inherently built into protocols like lCMP, UDP, SNMP, NTP and DNS. They do not verify traffic source, which make them vulnerable to spoofing.
2. DNS amplification attacks: The new DNS protocol allows server responses to be larger than 512 bytes. DNS servers can respond to multiple requests until the packet is full, making it much more efficient than its predecessor. However, this also means that attackers can generate large amounts of responses with a small number of requests.
The attack on Spamhaus cleverly exploits these two vulnerabilities to create the largest Internet traffic flood ever.
Nexusguard researcher Frank Tse emphasizes that while big numbers like “300 Gbps” seem scary, they only represent the highest level of flood traffic recorded, and that they are not maintained throughout the entire attack. Reflection attacks are a relatively basic form of traffic flooding and do not use more sophisticated techniques?not only are they easy to spot, their effects go away quickly once the attacks are responded to effectively.
Nexusguard proposes the following recommendations in response to the Spamhaus attack:
1. Patch vulnerabilities in Internet protocols as soon as possible.
2. Choose an ISP that provides anti-spoofing services to mitigate attacks at the source.
3. Have spare bandwidth available for emergencies. Organizations can consider subscribing to IAAS or MSSP services, which allow occasional bursts and are much more inexpensive than buying additional bandwidth.
4. Choose an Internet security service provider that has a comprehensive understanding of DDoS attacks.
Tse believes that the potency of DDoS flooding attacks will decrease as Internet protocols incorporate source validation mechanisms, and that these vulnerabilities will eventually be addressed as Internet security gains awareness.
However, Tse also says that more sophisticated attacks have now shifted to application layer attacks, which require much less bandwidth and are harder to detect. Organizations should focus on the actual techniques used in attacks rather than on big scary numbers. Furthermore, organizations should secure their networks by working with anti-DDoS service providers that can analyze attacks and keep up with new techniques.
